When politics leads and society follows?

For last two three days I have been watching the continuous coverage on the induction of few members in BJP who were sacked from the cabinet of BSP government headed by Ms Mayawati. It has become a bigger issue rather than any other in last few days. It would be unfair to be on neutral side on this whole affair which has almost drawn the attention of every one. Simultaneously one other development took place when the anti graft crusader for last one year Anna Hazare and his team seems to be in total disarray as long as their next strategy is concerned. Both of these developments put before us few questions which we need to answer.

Why such a situation happens when a major national political party does not care the sensibilities of most people and gives priority to her electoral arithmetic in crucial assembly elections? Why such a situation happens when a leader who was few months ago was supposed to be the new avatar of Mahatma Gandhi and instrumental figure for systematic change in Indian political system find himself in big tunnel of darkness with no clue to future ?

Both of these questions have answers in themselves and this answer is the domination of politics in our society. Personally I have been of the opinion that the overdependence on politics has hampered our multi dimensional growth.

For last few days when our media and political parties have left no stone unturned in criticizing the BJP for the induction of so called tainted members from other political parties. It surprises me to some extent whether this issue is being blown because it hurt those or it is being blown for the sake of raising the issue. It was our politicians who have always come out with brave face before team Anna that in parliamentary democracy ultimately the real strength counts on the numbers and numbers show who have the mandate of people. People in the government and Congress ridiculed team Anna and challenged them to fight elections first and prove their strength and then come with their demands and even the moral stature of Anna Hazare was put on challenge before the parties like NCP and Congress in recently concluded elections of local bodies in Maharashtra and the media was the major player to conclude equally that might of team Anna has been diminished before the mandate of people in Maharashtra.

In this background when I see the continuous coverage of media on the induction of so called tainted members in BJP it does not impress me either or make me fanatic to believe as BJP has done something extraordinary which had never been done earlier. According to the same logic of importance of numbers in democracy BJP knows well that all others things would be the things of past once they will be able to increase their numbers.

In our system politics definitely has major role and society is being governed mainly with laws and provisions which are being made by our parliament and our representatives but we have forget that society does not have the only one component which exclusively leads us to political domination of society.

Few other segments of society exist but we have neglected them totally and the whole attitude of people have become polity centric and we have no other job other than to abuse our political system and politicians but ironically we are so much consumed with politics and dependent on it. Politics is an art of manipulation and no constructive outcome could be guaranteed at large scale with being polity centric.

If we want our politics to be clean it is like day dreaming. If we want our politicians to be above their political interest it is acute example of making us fool.

Such things happen because we have synchronized everything into politics and we want solution of every problem into politics whether it is question of ethics, religion, spirituality or legislation. We need to build and honor our social leadership and make their voice more powerful and loud to be heard. As long as society will depend on politicians for the leadership it would be hugely disappointed. Time has come to limit the role of politicians into governance and did not expect them to be role model and cradle of moral, ethics and spirituality .
